Wii-inspired dances raise eyebrows on YouTube

We’ve seen plenty of them. People dancing to videogame music on YouTube. There’s been dance choreography by entire marching bands and cheerleader squads, professional dance teams doing their best impression of Dance Dance Revolution, even college kids re-enacting Tetris games through dance. And who could forget the hugely popular World of Warcraft Dance Video that first surfaced in 2007? After surfing around, I’ve found quite a few interesting dance videos involving the Wii.

After surfing on YouTube doing my normal routine of discovering new geeky content, I came across a familiar Mii Channel dance choreography video by Mike Song  that reinvigorated my interest in finding more Wii-inspired dance videos. The timing was perfect because two specific emails in my inbox both centered on the subject.

One of the emails highlighted Ubisoft’s Just Dance videogame for the Wii, which seemed to have slipped under the radar when it released last November. I mean, how could I miss this:

Spiderman and a really willing male videogamer dancing in front of a convention crowd last year? Now that’s interesting! Even more intriguing is Ubisoft’s ongoing That’s My Jam Sweepstakes at www.justdancegame.com

The contest allows owners of Just Dance to submit their own home-recorded videos on the website for a chance to win $1000 and eternal internet video fame. The submissions, which definitely vary in age range, are everywhere from decent dance performances…

…to downright hilarious

…to outright disturbing.

Another email came from a friend of mine who also happened to be an avid reader of The Kartel. Arturo Spell, an aspiring actor and vocalist sent us his own choreographed video of the Sonoma State University Dance Squad doing a Wii-inspired routine. Equipped with a Wii remote and Wii channel/commercial music to trigger each dance number, it’s an interesting take on the recent slew of dances inspired by Nintendo’s console. Presenting the three-part routine: Wii Would Like To Dance.

Even after checking out these cool videos, I’m sure that there just has to be more mind-blowing gaming dances that I’ve already missed. Actually… with all those crazy Japanese game shows, I stand corrected

That’s a nice choice of vids. The third “Just Dance” vid is a little creepy, I’ll agree with you on that. Nice reference to the WoW dances too. I liked the Mii channel dance choreography you linked to and the last dance in the “Wii Would Like to Dance” routine. As for the game, I love music and dance games, so I just might have to get that one XD.

Great another dance game, this is why people go embarrass themselves on tv on all those dance shows because they think they can dance. So Do You Think You Dance? Ha Ha No
