Rurouni Kenshin is so epic. That has what is possibly my favorite samurai movie ever in Samurai X: Betrayal.
You know that always made me wonder who would win a fight Rurouni Kenshin or Afro Samurai? Sure, I would say Rurouni Kenshin is the more experinced fighter but Afro Samurai is a bad man.
I think it depends on which time period of each character you set them to. Kenshin only reaches max potential for maybe a couple years, imo. Afro reaches max somewhere earlier on, but he maintains it for a fairly long period of time and then regains it years later. That being said, I think the two would probably kill each other or at least severely wound the victor so they die eventually from it.
you made me want to watch Afro samurai now just so I can say who's better. I'd have to give the edge to kenshin though, didn't he learn how to fight blind at one point?
The main difference I see between Afro and Kenshin is when I watch fights of Rurouni Kenshin he sometimes takes a couple hits before he goes into the killer mode. Afro Samurai on other hand is trying to go for the kill from the start and he never uses the dull side of the blade.
Rurouni Kenshin was pretty awesome. I miss the days when it was on Toonami :(
I use to love watching that on Toonami! Is Toonami still up? Cartoon Network is like crap nowadays. A lot of the shows aren't even cartoons anymore ._.
Yeah Toonami used to be the good old days. When they said they were closing down I couldn't believe it. Adult Swim has helped to make that loss more bearable but Cartoon Network is trash. No matter how much I liked Ed Edd and Eddy or Dexter's Laboratory in the past I just can't get with Ben 10 and these other knock off cartoons.
Toonami had a bunch of pretty decent anime on. Sad that they had to cut it...and CN went down hill from there. There are other options, but thier selection is pretty bad. Sci-Fi has some late night anime, but nothing really worth watching. Funimation only show like 3 series but again, those 3 series arent worth watching either.
It's a shame, but at least there are online alternatives. Kenshin vs. Afro... tough one. Both are equally awesome, but I think Afro would take it in the end. He's like a mix of Jin and Mugen from samurai champloo.

Yeah he does I think in the movie I mentioned. I think Kenshin might lose because of his more honor based persona. I know Afro's not a terrible guy, but he's not as honorable as Kenshin, so he could use that to his advantage.
I haven't watched any anime for 3-4 years, so I'm woefully behind the times. Here's a few I really enjoyed, in the order they come to mind....
Kinnikuman Gegege no Kitaro Ninja Scroll Akira Cowboy Bebop FLCL Riding Bean Death Note Ranma 1/2 Dragon Ball / Z Desert Punk Golgo 13 Ghost in the Shell

You've got some great tastes man. You should check out Gurren Lagann. It's from the same guys who made FLCL, and even has the same feel.
I still need to see Golgo 13, and you reminded me that I need to see Ranma 1/2 too. And what's Riding Bean?
I don't watch anime as much as I used to, but I can still pop in an episode of Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star and enjoy it just as much as I used to. I've gotten to the point where if I'm going to watch some anime it is more likely to be one with episodes that can stand on their own and not something with incredibly expanded story arcs like DBZ. As far as movies go Akira still holds up and pretty much anything from Miyazaki is still amazing, but in all honesty I never saw that new one of his that came out last year.

You mean Ponyo? It was ok. It was visually appealing, but compared to something like Spirited Away, it was a little lacking. I'm curious about Tales from Earthsea though...

As for Otakon, I'd go, but I'm over in SF :(
He will always get extra credit from me for Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. I thought I heard the Earthsea feature they did was not near up to the same quality as other Ghibli works.
